"I will send them to you."
March of 2011 the ladies met in what was then just an empty shack without water, power or even a working outhouse. We had come together to pray. To give thanks for this gift of a shack and to seek God’s direction for our future as we committed to walk on this new path He was calling us to. It was a significant night that led us into the next day, where God revealed many things. God told us he would bring our co-laborers to us, that He would unite thousands for this work because He wanted to bless them and glorify Himself. We were not to go looking for the workers—He would send them….
I received 8 emails from a woman named Marta--she said we had been introduced at one of my children’s events, but I couldn’t picture her face. She wanted to visit the school and was determined to make it happen soon. Last Friday she made it to the school. After a quick tour she sat down and presented her plan to help. I teach at the university. I train in Montessori techniques. I can only provide services on Saturday, but if you can convince your girls and even their moms to come to school on Saturday I will teach them and train your teachers. We will make the materials together and I will volunteer for several months until you are stable.
Seriously—did that just happen? How’s that for dreaming for our girls in the barrio the same dreams we have for our own daughters. While Montessori began in the poor barrios of Italy it has become an upper-class privilege and I could only dream of such quality training being provided by one of the most respected universities in the DR for free! God arranged that—planting the desire in Marta’s heart, aligning it with ours and then connecting us. It’s the perfect fit—A bilingual Dominican woman reaching out to her sisters in the barrio—providing her gifts, her best, for His glory!
