Simply trust

“We do we worry about tomorrow, why do we give in to the wind. We do we let our circumstances guide our hearts, when Jesus tells us simply trust in Him.”

We’ve been fighting against discouragement and fear all year. This has been a tough year for us and yet we have felt God’s presence like never before—It’s a strange dichotomy. There are days though when we want to throw in the towel, hop on a plane, get a traditional job, do something normal and regular. But we won’t! And this is why.

These are the images we take to bed with us at night, the faces that motivate us and spur us on. It’s their stories that break our hearts and encourage us to fight on their behalf.

Our first day as New Hope, Greici and I met with Jackqueline from the Jubilee Campaign, an organization that fights against child trafficking, and Greici shared how her sister had been killed in a trafficking scam, her own stories of abuse and those of the girls she works with every day at the local high school. She talked about how these experiences had inspired her to be brave...

“Bravery grows over time. Relationships are important in the Dominican Republic, they are everything. To work on behalf of our women and girls is to risk communal death, but we must align ourselves with them and God and let no man direct our path. “We have had enough!” We can no longer watch our girls live in danger, used and thrown out, selling their bodies because they feel no hope.  As long as we have breath they will have a door to knock on. We promise!”

Jackqueline stopped mid conversation with tears in her eyes to share a verse she felt God wanted to encourage us with….Isaiah 43:18-19 -- The Lord says, “Forget what happened before and don’t think about the past. Look at the new thing I am going to do. It’s already happening. Don’t you see it? I will make a road in the desert and rivers in dry land.
